My new boat s/v Phywave was loaded onto the transport ship Spiegelgracht in Southampton on May 19. Spiegelgracht is now making its way across the Atlantic with a first stop in Newport, Rhode Island and then on to Baltimore where it will arrive on June 1. Phywave will be offloaded on June 1 or 2 depending on what time the ship arrives. From there I will drive it south to the Jabin boatyard in Annapolis where the final outfitting work will begin. I expect that work will take about a month.
s/v Phywave moved to Southampton
Phywave was sailed from Cherbourg, France to Southampton, UK on April 26, 2022, a 90 nm, 14.5 hour trip with an average SOG=6.2 kts. About 36 liters fuel burn at an average 1750 rpm so pretty efficient. Of course, the boat is light and the bottom clean so it should be efficient at this point. Still, it’s useful data for my ocean passage planning.
Phywave will remain at the Town Quay Marina until it’s loaded on the transport ship Siegelgracht which will take it to Baltimore. The ship was originally scheduled to depart Southampton on April 28 but that date has slipped to May 18. Very frustrating.

s/v Phywave launched
My new sailboat Phywave was launched on March 22, 2022 in Cherbourg, France, and was taken out for a day of sea trials. The tested systems all worked well. Note that it doesn’t yet have a boom or mainsail. I’m having a custom furling boom and mainsail installed in Annapolis after the boat is shipped there from France.
